Uncle Dale & Timmy's Email i.e. Fans Are Freaky
Dear Uncle Dale, Mom says you're not my uncle. She says we're not even related. I like your long beard anyway. Whats a Rubato? Love, Little Timmy.
Dear Little Timmy, Your mom's right. I'm everybody's 'Uncle Dale' . I'm the weird one you're glad you're related to (Because of the great presents), but are happy you're not living with (because of my strange presence). The word 'rubato' is derived from the Italian for 'robust ' the way our band, The Rubatos has played since 2001. Love, Uncle Dale
Dear Uncle Dale, I like trains. Do you like trains' Love, Little Timmy
Dear Little Timmy, I do like trains. In fact, someone once said that The Rubatos are a highly sensitive sonic train wreck that always stays right on track. That's called a 'metaphor' Timmy. Love, Uncle Dale
Dear Uncle Dale, I like metaphors. I like TV, too. I like to watch Lucy. Do you? Love, Little Timmy
Dear Tim, In 1992, your Uncle Dale released a solo recording on Q-ball Records entitled "Tellin' Stories" that featured the semi autobiographical song called 'Blood for Lucy‰ about an encounter with Lucille Ball. It was quite well-received on the college radio circuit.
In '95, I wrote and produced a 45 entitled 'Home On The Strange' that featured Paul Marco on vocal (aka Kelton the Cop from the movie 'Plan 9 From Outer Space‰, released on Dionysus Records. This was an underground hit in Canada! Love, Uncle Dale
Dear Uncle Dale, It's cool that you're writing me. I wanna be a Rubato. Is it okay if I live in El Monte' Do I have to study something special in school' Love, Little Timmy
Dear Little Timmy, You sound like a good kid. Just stay in school, study hard and play music whenever you can. That's what the rest of the Rubatos do:
I am originally from Woodland, California (a tad north of sacramento). I was music coordinator and performer in the L.A.-based political/comedy troupe "Brother Awest and His World Salivation Ministry (W.S.M.) and we opened in 1984 and 1985 for Sonic Youth and the Meat Puppets when they came to L.A. Soonafter, W.S.M. toured the U.S.A. (27 cities in as many days) as an exclusive opener for the legendary punk rock band The Minutemen. In 1997, I started a musical improv ensemble with Ben Russak (a recognizable voice from the Cartoon Network) called Hobohead. I also play bass for singer/songwriter Joe Webb as well as the 3-piece Blues/Rock band, Jeremiah.
Torrance, California-native Percussionist Scott Fox has played in many L.A. local bands such as Mr. Ectomy, Hobohead and Zen Gecko, and has backed up numerous recording artists in both live and studio situations.
Guitarist Mike Thurston hails from Reseda, California and is a founding member of Zen Gecko. Thurston also enjoys playing in his jazz roots trio called the Thurstones.
Drummer David Garza was born in Virginia and he not only plays drums but is an accomplished bass player. Garza has a college degree in percussion and travels all over the United States teaching people about electronic drum technology for Roland Musical Equipment. Garza built his own marimba (kinda like a xylophone), plays piano, guitar and even the Indian instrument, the sitar!
Illinois-born Keyboardist/Vocalist Brandon Meyer was classically-trained on the piano starting at the age of 4. He played keys for five years with Chuck E. Weiss in Los Angeles, but his real passion is to be an actor! We hope to see him on TV real soon. So, Timmy, how old are you anyway' Love, Uncle Dale
Dear Uncle Dale, I'm 47. How old are you' Do you like ice cream' I like ice cream. Love, Little Timmy
Dear Tim, Um'Yes, I like ice cream. Dude, tell me: why do you call yourself 'Little Timmy? Uncle Dale
Dear Uncle Dale, Mom says I'll always be her Little Timmy. We live in the windmill at the Putt Putt Golf course. No one has found us yet. Love, Little Timmy
Dear Tim, I think you've taken too many balls to the brain. This will be my last letter. Please do not try to contact me again. Sincerely, Uncle Dale
****************** Uncle Dale and The Rubatos continue to play, 'Timmy-free' and have opened several times for super group Banyan (Mike Watt/Nels Kline/Steve Perkins). They recently (9/14/2002) shared a bill with Mike Watt & the Secondmen at Club Lingerie. They do not play Putt-Putt golf.
The Rubatos have toured Northern California twice, and are currently promoting their 6 song cd/LP, 'Warning Bad Dog'.
